We are working to ensure that children on the Isle of Wight are supported to get the best start in life that will lead to good health and wellbeing. This will provide the foundation to ensure they are able to achieve the best opportunities and keep as healthy and well as possible throughout their lives.
We want to ensure that families, individuals and communities are thriving and resilient with access to good jobs, affordable housing, leisure activities, lifelong training, education and learning, health and care services are are able to enjoy the place in which they live.
We want to ensure that people on the Isle of Wight are able to live independently in their own homes with appropriate care support. We want to make sure older residents are supported to play an active role in their communities and supported to maintain and develop their social and community networks.
The NHS, GPs, Health Commissioners, the Council, and the community and voluntary sector are working together to improve health and social care services to help people lead healthy, independent lives.
We launched the Isle of Wight Health and Care Plan in 2019 setting out our priorities over three years to help meet the health and care needs of the Island population. The plan also set out how we would work together to achieve those aims and how we would seek partners to work with us to support further improvements in services and to secure their long-term future.
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted on the delivery of some aspects of the plan as we redirected our efforts to ensure we could respond to the immense challenges it created. However, we have still made progress in relation to the delivery of that plan and in some areas have even exceeded our expectations.
Between 17 February and 3 April 2022, we invited members of the community to take part in a Health and Care Conversations survey and we thank the 500 people who took part to help us shape the Island’s Health and Care Plan for the next three years (2022 to 2025).
Through various pieces of community research, you had already told us about some of the things that are important to you, such as better access to GP appointments and NHS Dental services and improved mental health support for adults, children and young people. Through the Health and Care Conversations survey we have also heard what is working well, that we need to continue doing, what is not working and needs to change, and where we might have gaps that need addressing.
The results of the survey are currently being analysed and we will be hosting a public meeting to share the results once ready. We’ll share information about this meeting here, on social media or you can subscribe for Isle of Wight NHS Trust emails to hear first.
