About us
Welcome to the Oliveira Library page, you are in the right place!
Oliveira Library was originally opened by Mr. D. A. R. Naylor, B.E.M and chairman of the Isle of Wight Health Authority on 8 December 1984, in memory of Mr A. B. Oliveira who was a consultant surgeon working at St Mary's Hospital. Mr A. B. Oliveira very tragically passed away under anaesthesia in 1983 when having a routine procedure, and so the consultants of St Mary's donated money to open the Oliveira Library in his name.
It is our mission to capture our trust's core values in everything that we do, using Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Everyone Counts, to provide great quality customer service to our library users. Our library not only has a wide range of more traditional services such as the ability to order and recommend books to you in specific areas, but we have also made large advancements in technology enabled learning, to further develop our services for the user.

Services that we offer
Traditional library support:
- Book loans.
- Can order in a specifically requested book through our healthcare library network.
- Sourcing electronic journal articles.
- Study support.
- Tablecloth and values banner loan for NHS staff managing stalls at events.
- We can provide tailored reading lists.
- We can sign you up with a Library account.
- We provide literature search service.
Technology enabled learning support:
- We provide basic IT support.
- Literature search training.
- Set users up with access to the Hospitals Guest Wifi.
- Users have access to our Computer Suite in the Education Centre.
- Users have access to our Cyber Cafe opposite the full circle restaurant in the main Hospital.

- We provide short term loans for work laptops, projectors and display boards, contact the Oliveira Library email for further information.
- Meeting pods.
Meeting Pods
The Oliveira Library team is proud to present a new and exciting edition to their services, the meeting pods!
These pods are a much welcome bonus to our meeting spaces on St Mary’s Hospital grounds. With their new modern design, you have access to comfortable seating, charging ports, sound reduction properties, lighting, and fan. Creating a calm and focused environment for the user.
Our single person pod and four-person pod are now available to book.

Values banner and tablecloth loan
The Oliveira Library are now offering the loan of our Trust's values banner and dark blue tablecloth to NHS staff. These are perfect to take with you to promotional events and when hosting a stall. For enquiries around booking their use, please email us.
