Careers Information

About us

Our trust consists of 350+ jobs within seventeen career pathways. Within each career pathway there are so many opportunities for continual development and for a long and rewarding career with us here at our Trust. The Trust is divided into four key areas being Acute, Ambulance, Community and Mental Health. Our Trust have a lovely acronym which we hold very highly called ‘CARE’, this represents our core values being Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Everyone Counts.

The Learning, Development and Careers Team is part of the Learning, Education and Development Department (LEaD). We support growing our future workforce by promoting careers in both clinical and non-clinical roles across the Islands community. We are committed to growing our current workforce to enable them to be safe and up to date within their roles and work towards career aspirations, through continual development.

We are proud to provide opportunities that support learning and engagement, enabling high-quality and compassionate care for all. To support career development, we work closely with several partnering organisations such as HTP Apprenticeship College, the Isle of Wight College, 350+ NHS Careers, the Open University, and the Isle of Wight Council, Primary Care and Mountbatten Isle of Wight, to educate and inspire our colleagues in the Trust, spread awareness of existing career pathways, and to support with career development opportunities.

Attached below is a graphic showcasing the main overarching umbrellas for the Career Categories available to you within the NHS, a brief description on each area, to hopefully give you a better understanding of what may interest you, either for entry, career progression purposes or potentially a change in course.

Good levels of English & Maths skills are important in all aspects of daily life; they are key to gaining a new job or promotion, improving skills, gaining a qualification, or progressing to higher levels of learning.

  • For Functional Skills, they offer September and January intakes.
  • For GCSE, classes begin in September and January.

All of the Council’s delivery approach is ‘Individual Learning Plan’ (ILP) led. This means that learners do not have to keep up with a group; they can learn at their own pace.

  • Delivers Entry Levels plus Levels 1 & 2 qualifications and offers Functional Skills.
  • Exams are held four times a year, so if the individual feels ready, they can take the exam rather than waiting until the end of the academic year.
