On The Road To Good Health

A new health, fitness and wellbeing roadshow will hit the streets the end of this month, which will see the Isle of Wight Council’s public health team linking up with 1Leisure to encourage more people to get fit and healthy this year. The initiative is part of My Life a Full Life – the new way in which health and care services are being planned and provided on the Island both now and in the future. Its goal is to make sure that everyone works together to give people the right support and information so they can look after themselves better and live their lives to the full.

Whether you are super active, at the start of your fitness journey or slowing things down, 1Leisure will have a class for you and the public health team are on hand with advice, information and support on living a healthy lifestyle. So link up with us and we’ll help you hit those goals.

Executive member for adult social care and public health, Councillor Richard Priest said: “We have taken to the streets to let people know that not only can the council provide advice on health issues such as giving up smoking but we can also help support you across the board, for example, by helping residents make positive changes by joining up to our leisure centres.

“Our goal is to make sure that people have the right support and information so they can look after themselves better and live their lives to the fullest.”

Isle of Wight Council Director of public health, Professor Rida Elkheir, said: “Keeping active and feeling healthy is an important goal for all of us, regardless of fitness, age and ability. This roadshow is a key way for us to bring our services to the heart of the community and encourage people to talk about their health and any concerns they have.”

“The roadshow will help residents improve their physical and mental wellbeing and also help them meet the personal goals they have set themselves, as well as picking up some great tips and advice from our health and leisure team."

Visitors to the roadshow will be able to pick up free healthy recipe cards, have a go on a spin bike and rowing machine, as well as receiving well-being advice and information on a range of health related subjects such as: diet, physical exercise and stopping smoking.

The roadshow will be at the following locations, at the following times:

27th January 2017 – St Thomas’ Square – Newport, 11am to 3pm

03 February 2017 – Ryde Town Square – Ryde, 11am to 3pm
