We are working to ensure that children on the Isle of Wight are supported to get the best start in life that will lead to good health and wellbeing. This will provide the foundation to ensure they are able to achieve the best opportunities and keep as healthy and well as possible throughout their lives.
We want to ensure that families, individuals and communities are thriving and resilient with access to good jobs, affordable housing, leisure activities, lifelong training, education and learning, health and care services are are able to enjoy the place in which they live.
We want to ensure that people on the Isle of Wight are able to live independently in their own homes with appropriate care support. We want to make sure older residents are supported to play an active role in their communities and supported to maintain and develop their social and community networks.
The Festival promotes the richness and diversity of the Isle of Wight’s communities with events to interest all Islanders, whether you are looking to indulge in familiar activities or discover something entirely new. We have many regular favourites like coffee mornings and also a 1 week only exhibition as well as tea dances and free adult learning taster sessions.
Other Festival highlights include a walk lead by the Isle of Wight Ramblers following the River Yar with a tea afterwards, a Men in Sheds open afternoon, Family History drop-in with Sandown Library, a Wild about Wight Safari coach Trip, a poetry group, Knit and Natter with Island Libraries as well as a Carers IW drop-in and a Beach, Bugs and Bones event at Browns Café in Sandown.
A major highlight of the Festival is our Celebrating Age Awards on Thursday 6th October where we will be celebrating the fantastic contribution that older people make to the Isle of Wight at the annual awards held at Lakeside Spa Hotel. All shortlisted nominees and special guests will be invited to these awards, sponsored by Wright Estate Agency, where winners will be announced on the night.
Age Friendly Island is delighted to coordinate the Celebrating Age Festival with numerous generous partners committed to celebrating older Island residents and bringing our communities together.
