We are working to ensure that children on the Isle of Wight are supported to get the best start in life that will lead to good health and wellbeing. This will provide the foundation to ensure they are able to achieve the best opportunities and keep as healthy and well as possible throughout their lives.
We want to ensure that families, individuals and communities are thriving and resilient with access to good jobs, affordable housing, leisure activities, lifelong training, education and learning, health and care services are are able to enjoy the place in which they live.
We want to ensure that people on the Isle of Wight are able to live independently in their own homes with appropriate care support. We want to make sure older residents are supported to play an active role in their communities and supported to maintain and develop their social and community networks.
Over the last year, we have involved the community in over 50 different community meetings and more recently five public events held in Cowes, Newport, Ryde, Sandown and Freshwater.
Our Cowes ‘Question Time’ style session also feautured a panel of health leaders including: Mr Steve Parker (ASR lead), Vaughan Thomas (Trust Chair), Dr Barbara Stuttle OBE (Chief Nurse), Richard Samuel (STP), Loretta Outhwaite (CCG Deputy CO), Gillian Baker (CCG Director of Strategy & Partnerships) and Dr Michele Legg (Chair CCG Governing Body and Local GP) answering questions from around 80 members of the public who came to the event. The event was broadcast live on IW Radio and live online on County Press and social media. The BBC also attended to give a live update for their 6.30pm and 10.30pm news slots and for BBC Radio Solent and nearly 3,000 people were actively involved via Facebook live with many more listening in to the live broadcast on IW Radio. Travel and communications between hospitals continued to be the key concern, together with the capacity and willingness of mainland hospitals to take Island patients.
Staff have also had their own events and opportunities to contribute and we continue to engage in more community discussions like the Age Friendly Island and Carers Forums and a number of individual meetings.
Until we have NHS England’s authority to conduct formal public consultation, we intend to keep involving the community in our discussions, listening to feedback and ensuring that the proposals are shaped by your views.
