Work Experience

**Due to COVID-19 the Isle of Wight NHS Trust has made the difficult decision to postpone all school related face to face Work Experience until further notice.

We will update this page when we are able to update you on our full catalogue of work experience programmes once again.**

Work experience provides you with a great opportunity to understand more about the NHS and develop your skills, whilst also gaining confidence and building steps within your chosen career path.

Working for the NHS can be very rewarding. More people in England work for the NHS than any other organisation. On the Isle of Wight, as in most places in the UK, the NHS is one of the largest local employers.

This doesn't just mean we employ doctors and nurses: it means healthcare assistants, business managers, clerical staff, domestics, engineers.......over 350 different careers, each with a vital role to play in delivering a first-class health service.

We recommend that you take time to visit the NHS Careers website https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/ to help you decide which department you would like to spend your time with as this will ensure you get the most out of your work experience.

Whilst we cannot currently support requests for school related work experience during the current time, if you would like more information regarding NHS Careers please contact:

Email: iownt.Work.Experience@nhs.net

We welcome requests to support local careers events both virtually and/or on site. Representatives from the Trust will showcase their roles and career journeys, providing you with the opportunity to speak to professionals about their careers and ask any questions you may have. It also will demonstrate to you the many career opportunities available within the Trust, providing time and support to either help you on your chosen career path or identify what your career path could be. Requests must be submitted at least 3 months prior to the proposed required date.

We also offer Career Development Conversations with individuals to discuss available roles and opportunities within the Trust.

For Schools / Colleges / Training Providers, all requests will need to come directly from the Careers Advisor or Teacher and should be emailed to iownt.Work.Experience@nhs.net
